Willie Herenton has made a fool out of our city for too long, and even after submitting his retirement, he picked up a petition for the Mayor race in Memphis.
The five-term former mayor is now in possession of the paperwork needed to run in the election his July 30 retirement provoked.
“I think it’s shocking for everyone to know that we’re about to spend a million dollars on a special election to replace a man who intends to run in that special election,” said Election Commission chairman Bill Giannini.
We, the citizens of Memphis, Tennessee are seeking to have Willie Herenton billed for the cost of the upcoming election if he contests it. He should not contest the election.
