Over one thousand people have signed our petition to help save public access to the Langdale small-boat float. If you are not in that number, there is still time to sign the petition by clicking this link to the original petition

Together we urged BC Ferries to meet with the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) with a view to maintaining public access to Langdale Terminal by private boats and water taxis after the proposed closure date of 15 October 2009. BC Ferries have indicated that a separate small-boat float and ramp could possibly be built within Langdale Terminal and that the closure date could be reconsidered if plans and funding arrangements were well advanced by this fall.

SCRD has applied to both federal and provincial governments for funding to erect a new dock facility that would be for the use of private boats and water taxis wishing to access Langdale Terminal, the SCRD bus system, or the BC Ferries parking lot. Location and design of the new small-boat float will be dependent upon a review by BC Ferries to determine if the facility can be located such that it addresses their needs related to safety, security and liability.

To support their applications for funding, SCRD needs to gather some passenger-trip usage data to justify this investment. We have offered to assist by asking our petitioners how many person trips they each make annually to/from the Stormaway dock. We will then summarize the data so that SCRD can forward it to the federal and provincial governments in support of their applications.

When you click the “Sign the petition” box below you will be asked to answer two frequency questions that will help SCRD to gather some data on the number of passenger trips that people make over the Stormaway float (excluding any trips on the Stormaway passenger ferry).

You will also be asked for your name and email address, plus “Town/City” which we would like you to answer with the name of the Howe Sound island or Sunshine Coast Community that you typically travel to/from by boat. (e.g. Keats, Gambier, Gibsons)

1. As a passenger in private boats and/or water taxis, how many times a year, on average, do you expect to be picked up or dropped off at the Stormaway dock in Langdale? (Please count a round trip as two passenger trips and exclude any trips on the Stormaway.)

2. As a private boater how many passenger trips do you typically undertake each year with your boat to drop off or pick up folks at the Stormaway dock in Langdale Terminal? (Example: if you take one person to pick up a car in the Langdale parking lot 20 times each summer and then bring him/her back again later in the day, please count that as forty passenger trips.)

After you have provided your answers, please remember to click the "Sign" button or you answers will not be saved.
