A&E Paramedics Corp bill:
The Right to accident and emergency rescue

The trauma of road accident is a harrowing experience that has become too common in Nigeria. There would be very few Nigerians that have not been affected either by the loss of a relative, friend or colleague in a road traffic accident. Still many visitors, tourists and foreign investors responding to the call to do business in Nigeria have horrible memories and stories of despair on encounters with accident emergency situations.

Road traffic accidents in Nigeria probably accounts for the highest cause of tragic death in adults. In many encounters, tragic death and permanent injury might have been avoided if accident victims were able to receive emergency attention. Such attention would range from simple, but professional rescue from crash, on the spot resuscitation and immediate and professional rescue of victims. The bill serves to establish the right of all Nigerians to accident emergency rescue.

The paramedic service proposed for Nigeria is one that is framed on public/ private partnership that will work very closely with the Road Safety Corps and emergency units of public hospitals and rural health care centres. This would mean equipping all Accident and Emergency units of our public hospitals and strategic rural health centres across the country.
