Fine particle pollution, including diesel exhaust, can cause lung cancer, stroke, heart attack and infant death. It also triggers asthma attacks and makes people more likely to become allergic. (EPA) classifies diesel emissions as a "likely carcinogen." Diesel emissions are estimated to be responsible for 70 percent of the cancer risk arising from air pollution, according to the California Air Resources Board. Dangers from diesel exhaust can range from respiratory illnesses including asthma and bronchitis to lung cancer and heart disease.

Children are more vulnerable to the effects of diesel exhaust than adults because they breathe more quickly and take more air into their developing lungs. And on average, school children who ride the bus spend an average of 90 minutes each weekday in transit.CO is found in combustion fumes, such as those produced by cars and trucks, small gasoline engines, ranges and heating systems. CO from these sources can build up in enclosed or semi-enclosed spaces. People and animals in these spaces can be poisoned by breathing it.

We the undersigned are calling on action for cleaner air and a healthier, and longer life. now that we have rid of public smoking we need to rid of exhaust gases in our everyday life. perhaps add more taxes or find another means of transportation. i don't like being exposed to car exhaust or bus idling at school zones. these pose serious health hazards as well as tobacco. i think we should go back to riding horses and bring our own horse bag for clean up. i have a right to protect my health such as those that have right to protect from 2nd hand smoke.
