Helping street children

PROJECT FOR STEERT CHILDREN

GOAL:

Full and wholesome development of children without homes and family ties.

AIM:

Prevention of destitution and withdrawal of children from a life on the street and their placement into national main stream.

OBJECTIVE

Provisions of shelter, nutrition, health care, sanitation and hygiene, safedrinking water, education and recreational facilities and protection against abuse and exploitation to destitute and neglected street children.

STRATEGY

Developing awareness and providing support to build capacity of the Government or non Government organizations or and Donors and the Community at large to realize the rights of the child enshrined in the Convention on the Rights of the child and in the Juvenile Justice Act 1986.

TARGET GROUP

The programme will endeavor to provide non-Institutional support necessary for the whole some development of street children particularly those without homes and family ties and children especially vulnerable to abuse and exploitation such as children of six workers and children of pavement dwellers. Children living in slums and with their parents shall be excluded from the coverage of the revised scheme as expensive has shown that they tend to dominate the programme at the expense of more vulnerable children. Such as those without homes and family ties. Also the programs of other ministries such as Human resource development, Urban areas and Employment and labor already cover children living Urban slums.

According to the NET’S average and information in the hand there were 150 millions street children world wide in 2007. That is more them the entire population out of these millions children live on streets around the clock without they own family ties. In South America there are at least 40million street children; In Asia 30 million; In Africa 10 million and in eastern and western Europe approximately 30 million children and youth live on the street.

In Brazil over Thousand street children die each year. That’s about four children per day. Every third Brazilian child dies before its 18th birthday. According to NET vision, out of the 600 million people that currently live in the slum of the large cities of the world 74% are children and youth under 24 years of age.

STREET CHILDREN ARE SEXUALLY EXPLOITED

World wide, and estimated 10 million children are victims of today’s sex industry. There are between 5 Lacks and 7 Lacks child prostitutes in India; 1 million in Asia, 7 Lacks in Brazil and 2 Lacks 50 Thousand in the United States. In Bangkok 6 Lacks of the 3 Lacks prostitutes are under 14 years old.

In Sri Lanka some 30 Thousand boys work as child prostitutes. In Paris 7 Thousand boys and 5 Thousand girls, mainly from the Eastern Europe countries, are child prostitutes. The U.N reports that 1 million children became prostitutes each year.

GIRL CHILDREN

In some countries of the world more than twice as many boys receive medical treatment than girls. In Bangladesh, India and Pakistan the Discrimination of girls result in more than 1 million death.

Approximately 132 million girls and women world wide suffer from the consequences of female circumcision. Every year in Africa 5 million girl are circumcised.

STREET CHILDREN WITH AIDS

The world health organization (WHO) reports that in 2006 along 9 Lacks children world wide became infected AIDS with HIV, WHO estimates that 3.5 million world wide are infected with HIV 90% of whom live in the developing world. If the spread of HIV is not contained, AIDS may increase the mortality rates of children under 5 by more than 100% in regions most affected by the disease who also estimated that every day, 1600 children under 15years of age become infected with HIV world wide. About one third of the babies born to HIV-Infected mothers acquire the infection, and of those infected about 90% will die before their 5 birthday.
