This petition has been written to lower the price of parking permits for the residence halls. This would lower the price from three hundred and fifty five dollars annually to approximately two hundred dollars annually.
Students must pay one hundred and nine dollars per credit for general in state tuition and have a minimum of twelve credits in order to live in the residence halls.
In addition to this, students must pay $4,570 annually to live in the residence halls plus the meal plan which costs anywhere from $2,899 to $3,899.
Therefore the minimum cost a student must pay in order to live on campus (excluding the parking permit) is $8,780.
Lowering the parking permit prices for residence hall permits to two hundred dollars would save students another one hundred and fifty five dollars that they could put towards their tuition.
We the undersigned call upon the Parking and Transportation Services of the University of Nevada, Reno to lower the prices of parking permits for the residence halls.
We ask that the price is lowered from three hundred and fifty five dollars to two hundred dollars. This would help more students who are not able to park their cars on campus due to financial problems, and would create more of an opportunity for the students to get a job to help pay for their tuition.
