A transit corridor is proposed along the West Road. However, road users have expressed concern about the potential loss of 50% capacity on the eastbound side of the dual carriageway and changes westbound. This may displace some of the traffic onto other routes, such as Stamfordham Road.

The campaign accepts that some changes to the West Road would be beneficial but we believe many of the changes will make congestion worse. We want to see the development of a suitable park and ride in the West End of Newcastle to help make public transport more attractive.

We, the undersigned, call on Newcastle City Council to halt plans to introduce the West Road transit corridor; develop proposals for Park and Ride facilities that are fit for purpose, including at least one site that is to the west of the Lemington Road Ends junction of the A69; and improve the flow of traffic along Scotswood Road so it becomes a viable alternative to the West Road.

The Newcastle upon Tyne - West Road Congestion Plan petition to Residents of West Newcastle, commuters using West Rd & A69, Stamfordham Rd & West Rd bus passengers was written by JS and is in the category Roads & Transport at GoPetition.
