Our Choice

I too agree that it should be our choice. I recently was given a ticket for not wearing my seatbelt. Normally, I would have been wearing my seatbelt (my choice), but in this case I was 8 months pregnant and the seat belt didn't fit properly. I felt it would endanger myself or my unborn child. I am awaiting court to see what kind of lovely fine I will receive and who's daily salary I will pay!!!!! It's all about money!!!

This of course is the crux of the matter, I have no axe to grind with those who choose to wear their seatbelts but I do have an axe to grind with the law makers and the patronising and arrogant members of the pro seatbelt lobby who seem to think that they have a right to accuse us of being idiots for not towing the party line so to speak, well I have news for them, whether they think that the non seatbelt wearers are idiots or not is irrelevant to this situation, I choose to make my own decisions in my car and whether they like it or not I will not be told by some bureaucrat or sanctimonious little do gooder that by adopting a certain approach I am endangering my life, how do they know ? do they know me ? do they understand the reasons for why some people do not comply ? they are just a sanctimonious batch of gutless and ingratiating "I'll accept these laws because by not doing so I will get fined " fraternity and if they want to belt up, that's entirely up to them but don't preach to the rest of us about the advantages of it and yet again I maintain that the authorities always bleat about the number of people being admitted to ER units with non seatbelt wearing related injuries then the solution is clear, if they are so worried about doing it then dont treat them, I don't ask to be treated by emergency services if involved in an accident they just do it, well in many ways it is better to expire rather than have to be treated back to health purely to enhance the state's survival figures and to have to endure the sort of parenting and nannying that we have to endure at the moment from these corrupt and iniquitous individuals that run our countries and bleed us dry of our money. To those that agree with the law makers I can only say YOU are welcome to them you have what you deserve , the inability to make any independent decisions for yourselves, Your lives NOT mine !!!!! And when should life ever be sacrosanct ? you only have to look at those unfortunately in vegetative states and in long term comas is their life having quality ? another issue and more controversy but let's not go there eh !!!
God gave us life evidently and he alone will decide when our time comes to be recalled but every person's life on earth is for them to control and to make their own decisions for whatever reason within the confines of the ten commandments NOT for sleazy maladjusted politicians to control our lives for us.

I would like to know who and where to write to about this law being changed.I am a 38 year old mother of 2.I DO make them wear seatbelts because I am responsible for their little lives. I feel as an adult, who knows the dangers, i should have the right to choose what i do or don't do to protect myself. in the states of fla. and ill. , maybe others that i don't know of, people do not have to wear helmets but can if they choose to. I feel i should have that same right. A woman can abort a baby because it is her right to do what she wants to her body-this is my body and i want that right too. Smoking in public affects all people around the moke-drining and driving afets others on the road-please tell me how Me not wearing a seatbelt affects or endangers any life but mine. i know the danger as a smoker who chooses to smoke knows the dangers of ciggarettes and lung cncer -they have the right to choose to smoke despite warnings. I feel as long as i know all the warnings and it doesnt affect or hurt anyone else, i should be able to choose what i want with my life.It should be MY choice since it is MY body and isnt hurting or helping anyone but ME.--- i would much rather see the law worrying more about human trafficking and pedaphyles and such

why should anyone have say whether we live or die? wait, dead people can only vote, but not pay taxes. As with every little thing that our communist government does, they take away one freedom at a time. The only problem is, we cannot do anything about it other than get together and i mean EVERYONE and say, we will not do it, it is our freedom of choice.

This law is more like something the national socialist's would like to pass because the communist governments never had a seat belt law.
The only reason politicians like to pass this law is because they can either work for the car companies or the insurance industry for a six or seven figure salary once they are out of office!
While the police officers are busy giving seat belt tickets, the car jacker's, muggers, smugglers and other assorted scum are doing more harm to innocent victims!

Here here Randy, I totally agree. I was stopped yesterday and given a £60 fine and there were 4 police men and 3 cars on the road side which could have been as you say doing some real crime busting. They are a joke. Also I was told my number plate was illegal, to which I replied WHAT!! after 6 years of having the car and plate it was the first time I had ever been stopped, PC said it wasn't the worst illegal plate he had ever seen, I replied that' because it's legal and no further action.

I don't mind if others choose to wear a seat belt, or if others insist that children buckle up. However I, as an adult, want the freedom to make that choice for myself. My choice is "no seat belt" and I have no intention of changing that any time soon. It gives more freedom and comfort, the actual risks involved are probably lower than many people think, and it looks pretty damn cool too.

Seatbelts are there for our safety but its our choice if we dont wear them. I almost all the time dont wear mine but sometimes I do because theres police nearby. I do agree that seatbelts are uncomfortable and sometimes gives you a sore neck.
